Happy Simcoe Day!

It's great to have a long weekend in August... and who cares if you have no idea why you get the day off! :)
Actually, today is Simcoe Day in honour of the first Lieutenant-Governor of Upper Canada. However, Torontonians are the only ones who actually call it that. Most provinces and territories in Canada also take the first Monday in August off but the day is known by several different names. For instance, in Nova Scotia it's called Natal Day and in Alberta it's called Heritage Day. In general you can call it a Civic Holiday. And if you are in one of those lucky provinces or territories that gets it, you can call it "WOO HOO LET'S GO TO THE COTTAGE!!"
