We {heart} SickKids

Oliver's Labels make kids lives a little more organized (and fun!) and we are always looking for other ways to give back to kids.

One of our passions at Oliver's Labels is supporting SickKids Hospital in Toronto. For over a year we pledged $1 to SickKids for every social media interaction* on our Facebook page, Twitter feed and blog. We called this little project our Great Wall of Friends and for every interaction, we stuck a label on our office wall. This little project turned into a huge mural thanks to all of you. We truly appreciate all of your support by way of comments, likes and tweets.

My, how our Great Wall of Friends has grown!

In looking for new, innovative ways to support SickKids, we partnered with their Child Life Department to develop a program that would add a bit of joy to the lives of their little patients. Over the last few months, we transitioned from the Great Wall of Friends Program to the Room-eez™ Wall Decal program that gives each child the opportunity to personalize their room with their name and a favorite design theme. (See images of patients' rooms, below)

We've received the most wonderful feedback and are deeply touched to hear from SickKids nurses and volunteers that the children adore their decals. Thank you to everyone at SickKids who helped make this program a reality.

We are overjoyed by the amount of support our fans have shown for our charitable initiatives and look forward to sharing more pictures and heartwarming stories with you going forward.

Warmly,

Debbie and all of the staff at Oliver's Labels

Ideas For Mixing It Up This Summer

If you ask kids, summertime is awesome. THE. BEST. TIME. EVER.

But as parents we know that, despite being fun, summer is a LOT of work! There are camps to book, activities to plan and play dates to schedule. It definitely takes some planning and organization.

We have a few ideas that we hope will help you plan your summer, if you haven't done so already. ;)

1. Make a Boredom Buster Jar - have each family member make a list of things they'd like to do, then mark them on pieces of paper (or decorated craft sticks like these) and put them in a jar. Each day (or week - whatever you've decided on) a new activity is chosen from the jar.
  • Some ideas we like: picking berries, visiting a local farm / splash pad / pool, going on a picnic
  • Tip: be sure to set boundaries so there's no disappointment, i.e. a trip to France might not be in the budget!

2. Let kids cook - ask them for help in creating the weekly meal plan, and set up a rotating schedule for them to prep and/or make dinner (this is dependent on the skill level and age of your kids). If they prepare the meal, you know they'll eat it! Plus, the added responsibility will build confidence and empower them to try new foods.
  • Tip: keep an open mind! If your kids have a wacky meal idea, indulge them. :)

3. Surprise your kids - there's nothing better than taking kids on a completely unexpected family outing. If the budget allows, take advantage of last-minute discounts by booking a night at a hotel, tickets to a theatre show or an excursion to a waterpark. Those are the kinds of things kids remember well after the summer is over. :)

4. Have a movie marathon day - I'm a big supporter of being outside and active, especially during the summer months. But there's something to be said for mixing it up with a day of staying in your pajamas, watching movies, eating popcorn and bonding as a family.
  • Tip: consider letting your child(ren) invite a friend or two to join in the fun. The more, the merrier!

What kinds of things does your family like to do in the summer? We'd love to hear your ideas, so let us know by commenting below or on social media! Be sure to tag us @oliverslabels. :)

Wishing you a great start to the summer season!

Ready for Summer? {+ Promo Code!}

We can't believe it's almost the end of May, which means there are only a few more weeks of school before summer break. Ahhh... where does the time go?

To help all you Moms and Dads wrap up the school year with ease, and prepare for the fun summer months ahead, we've got a few tips that might help!

Teacher Appreciation Gifts

Don't stress over end-of-year teacher gifts. Try these DIY ideas that are useful, relatively inexpensive and so easy the kids can help make them too!

1. DIY terrariums are beautiful gifts that will be appreciated for a long time. Our favorites are mason jar terrariums... so chic!  Check out this tutorial on the Clean Slate blog.

    2. This (free)  Thank You Teacher Printable from The Suburban Mom is a heartfelt gift that any educator would love.

    3. Summer Relaxation Buckets are always a hit. The ones from Coffee Cups & Crayons are fabulous examples and will give you some inspiration when creating your own!

    Summer Prep

It's never too early (or too late!) to plan summer activities for your kids; just be sure to label all their gear so it all comes home. ;)

    1. This awesome Lemonade Recipe from The Idea Room will come in handy when your kids ask to set up a lemonade stand. What a great way for them to learn about finances and responsibility with their own little business-for-a-day!

    2. This Summer Camp Guide (with packing checklists) will help you plan ahead for both day and overnight camp stays.

    3. Our Camp Package will keep you organized and help your child's stuff stay out of the lost and found pile. The best part? We're offering $20 off until June 4th!

That's 151 labels & tags starting at only $38.99! Order at www.oliverslabels.com and use code CAMP2015 at checkout. :)

We'd love to hear your tips and tricks for making the end of the school year (and the start of summer) stress-free, so feel free to post them on any of our social media pages, using the hashtag #OliversLabelsTips.

    Happy summer!
